BIRD/TH
Can we learn each other how to fall?
Every summer, a recurring ritual takes place in Iceland. Lost puffling chicks are thrown from sea cliffs by people. Only through this dizzying act can they spread their wings and find their flight.
With BIRD/TH, Zoë Demoustier dedicates a dance performance to the anatomy of the free fall. The performance explores that raw moment, suspended in mid-air, when nothing seems certain and anything feels possible. A boundary-pushing moment, where fear meets euphoria. It is there, on the edge of the unknown, that falling can become flying, and that losing one’s grip can mark the beginning of something new.
In BIRD/TH, Zoë brings together a cast of young professional dancers and children. Different bodies, each with their own fears and desires. Together, they form a polyphonic community, a young generation preparing to jump, but not quite knowing how. Through a repetition of movements, they transform towards that ultimate moment of surrender to the free fall. Their movements are accompanied by the sound of their voices, their breathing, their cries.
BIRD/TH is a sung dance performance. A rite of passage towards finding the confidence to face the world. Fierce and vulnerable, yet hopeful.
